For the 14th year, Shop & Share offered students and families the opportunity to support our Forest Hills schools students during the holidays and throughout the year and they took advantage of it.
- 112 donors requested a Forest Hills Wish List and shopped on their own. Their generosity fulfilled the needs and wishes of more than 500 students and family members, totaling an estimated $38,500.
- School families and community members helped to raise nearly $7,400 that will be invested in fulfilling grant requests made by Forest Hills staff members who know our desire to provide for immediate needs of students and their families facing circumstances beyond their control.
- Pennies, Nickels, Dimes & Quarters...$23,000 worth of them! All six Forest Hills elementary schools and Nagel spent a week competing in Coin Wars and they took the competition seriously. Students were responsible for promoting, making announcements and trying to capture the flag each to get grade level bragging rights. The funds raised during Coin Wars are used by shoppers during our Community Shopping Night.
- Anderson and Turpin students filled Jack's Closet for 8-18 year olds who have been taken into kinship or foster care. Jack's Closet is located at Clough United Methodist. They are a fantastic community partner doing great work in our community.
- More than 300 people took over Target during our Community Shopping Night and provided our community partners with more than they could have imagined! The resources needed by Jack's Closet and Inter Parish Ministry, along with toys for Anderson Township Fire Department's Annual Toy Drive, were met with an overwhelming response. Shoppers spent $33,000 in about 3 hours; even more incredible is their shopping only used about $6,700 of 9United funds. Yes, your math is correct - shoppers reached into their pockets and spent $26,000 to support our efforts.
- 9United has purchased $13,000 worth of Kroger Gift Cards that will be used to support the grant requests submitted by Forest Hills counselors. We've never been able to do this before and it is only because our students, families and community United in Generosity to meet the needs of those around us.
Since 2008, Shop & Share has not only offered students and families an opportunity to support Forest Hills students during the holidays, it also provides sustainability of our efforts to support students all year and our student-led service initiatives.
